HTC HD2 on Android !

If you are among those who have been longing for HTC to launch an Android version of the HD2, your wait is over… only it’s Samsung who has made the handset! The company just announced the new Galaxy S at the International CTIA Wireless 2010 gathering, touting a 4-inch screen and a customized version of Google Android 2.1.

GSMArena has the full specifications of the device and the most impressive aspects are the 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera (autofocus, LED flash) with 720p recording at 30fps, 8/16GB internal storage that is further expandable via microSD and, of course, the 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (16 million colours, 480×800 pixels resolution). The screen will be augmented by mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) – a technology used in Samsung’s best-selling LCD and LED TVs – that boosts an even sharper and crisper viewing experience for photos, videos, and e-books. And all of this in a slim 9.9mm-thin body!

The customized version of Google Android 2.1 incorporates social networking via a ‘Social Hub’, and the homepage will give access to a ‘Daily Briefing’ that offers instant access to weather, news, stocks, and the scheduler.

What really impressed us, though, is that the Galaxy S comes built-in with the Swype text input technology. The innovative software has been hailed as the best and fastest text input interface. In fact, just a few days ago, Swype ex-employee Franklin Page set the Guinness World Record for the fastest text message ever by using Swype on a Samsung Omnia II.

The only thing about the Galaxy S that we do not know as yet is whether it supports multi-touch input or not. With Apple throwing lawsuits at anyone who dares incorporate multi-touch on an Android handset and Samsung keeping mum about the same, we think the company is playing a ‘wait and watch’ game to announce that feature.

While there is no news yet on pricing, the only thing that we know about the availability is that it will be released worldwide this year.
